Radio Miraya is a radio station owned and operated by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Launched in 2005 under the auspices of the United Nations Mission in Sudan, its initial goal was to support implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that marked the end of the long conflict between the south and north.

Radio Miraya
moved its operations to South Sudan with its independence on 9 July 2011, and the establishment of the Mission. The radio has its headquarters in Juba, with a transmission network across the country.

The radio broadcasts in English and Arabic to approximately 75% of South Sudan and interacts with an international audience via social media platforms. All journalists and presenters are national staff, with three international staff in capacity building/editorial roles. The radio has journalists based in all 10 states of South Sudan, reporting on issues of concern to local communities.

NEWS BULLETINS

English News: 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm

Arabic News: 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm

News bulletins at the top of every hour (see daily schedule above) provide objective information and seek to counter misinformation, especially in the context of the current conflict in the country.

LIVE PROGRAMMING

Live programming is produced 10 hours a day, five days a week with music and repeated programming on weekends.

Through the broadcast of fair, balanced and accurate news and information, Radio Miraya supports UNMISS’ mandate. Daily interactive programmes give listeners from all over the country the opportunity to share their ideas on topics of the day.

Live round table discussions and debates bring together different points of view from government, political party representatives, civil society, humanitarian actors as well as peace and development partners on issues like protection of civilians, peaceful resolution of conflict, respect for human rights, accountability, humanitarian aid, good governance and development.
